PAYROLL MANAGER
Attolero is seeking a Payroll Manager to help support our nonprofit customers. In this role, you will be an integral part of keeping us true to our mission of providing business support services that enable nonprofits to pursue their passions and be freed from the burden of running their business. We are a cloud based accounting software and services organization. All contributors work remotely utilizing email and virtual online meetings as primary communication methods although there may be periodic visits to customer sites. This provides our team members with maximum flexibility in completing their roles.
Position Overview
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing full-cycle payroll services for multiple nonprofit clients served by Attolero. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while delivering exceptional client service. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in Gusto, and thrives in a client-facing environment.
This position requires strong technical payroll expertise, attention to detail, process ownership, and the ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Compliance
- Manage full-cycle payroll for multiple nonprofit clients (weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls).
- Process and provide oversight of payroll activities through Gusto, including onboarding, benefits administration, deductions, garnishments, and off-cycle payrolls.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Oversee payroll tax filings, W-2s, 1099s (as applicable), and year-end reporting.
Client Service & Advisory
- Serve as primary payroll contact for assigned nonprofit clients.
- Advise clients on payroll best practices, employee classifications, benefits setup, and compliance matters.
- Coordinate with internal accounting teams to ensure payroll data integrates accurately into financial reporting.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with Account Managers and accounting team to ensure proper coding and allocation of payroll expenses.
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of full-cycle payroll processing experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience using Gusto.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance and payroll tax regulations.
- Experience managing payroll for multiple clients or entities simultaneously.
- Solid understanding of payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Experience supporting nonprofit organizations (preferred).
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Experience with nonprofit grant allocations and restricted funding payroll tracking.
- Experience with integrating Quickbooks Online
